It is as follows:

   <splitpath depth="2" length="3" escape="+">
     <include path="/assets/"/>
   </splitpath>

But I also tested using this configuration

   <splitpath depth="2" length="3" escape="+">
     <include path="/"/>
   </splitpath>

where every file is splitted, not only those under /.
