i have so far two suggestions.

i would remove the HttpServletRequest in the create( and createRTIProperties(
methods.since is not needed.
maybe invent a PropertyType object to alow more flexibility to the
configuration of the userinterface. e.g a view for this "different types of
(XHTML) input fields". which may not even have to be XHTML (e.g XUL, json
etc.).
