I have implemented the functionality that one can configure a custom 
realm implementation within realm.xml, e.g.

<realm-config class="org.wyona.yanel.core.map.Realm2" 
xmlns="http://www.wyona.org/yanel/realm/1.0">
  <name>Yanel From Scratch Realm</name>
...
