i think the behaviour regarding the line-breaks is correct.
that's just the difference between double and triple braces.

{{ means mono-spaced font (line-breaks are handled as in normal wiki text)

{{{ means pre-formatted text (line-breaks are copied 1:1)

so the problem is just the escaping of certain characters inside of {{{ ... }}}

and yes, it's a parser problem.
