Hi

In order to provide the possibility to add various (and customized) 
authentication implementation, I think we should
enhance the IdentityManager interface by a method

getAuthenticator()

which could return something like

DefaultAuthenticator implements Authenticator
LDAPAuthenticator implements Authenticator
OpenIDAuthenticator implements Authenticator

whereas this might not be sufficient if one thinks about Single-Sign 
functionality with a secure token.
