I have re-installed the balancer app resp. the tomcat cluster nodes and 
the endorsed libs are no good resp. need to be set as follows:

ulysses at mobi:~/src/ulysses-demo$ ls 
/home/ulysses/src/tomcat-cluster/build/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.30-cnode1/common/endorsed/
xercesImpl-2.7.1.jar  xml-apis-1.3.02.jar
ulysses at mobi:~/src/ulysses-demo$ ls 
/home/ulysses/src/tomcat-cluster/build/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.30-cnode2/common/endorsed/
xercesImpl-2.7.1.jar  xml-apis-1.3.02.jar

I have added an enhancement request that yanel will patch the endorsed 
libs during installment.
