to be honest I have never looked at gdata (just as the Atom guys never 
looked at WenDAV originally ;-)

yes, it is more than Atom. Atom was specially intended for blogging, 
although it is used for other stuff as well

well, with Neutron we try to simplify as good as we can, but reuse from 
other protocols if possible.
